The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was confirmed released from Kuje prison on Friday by Umar Abubakar, the Nigerian Correctional Service spokesman.
Abubakar mentioned that Emefiele met the bail conditions set by Justice Hamza Muazu on November 22, 2023, which included a bail of N300 million and the requirement for his sureties to possess properties in Abuja’s Maitama District. Emefiele had been remanded in prison until these conditions were met.
Emefiele had faced charges by the EFCC and the Nigerian Federal Government regarding an alleged N1.2 billion procurement fraud. His release follows ongoing investigations into financial misconduct, as highlighted in an interim report by Jim Obazee, the special investigator probing the CBN.
