Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian forward, has signed a contract renewal with Napoli that is projected to run until 2026.
The Italian champions made the announcement regarding the extension of the African Footballer of the Year’s contract through an official post on their social media platform last Saturday.
Napoli shared, “Victor and Napoli united until 2026,” on social media, accompanied by an image showing the Nigerian striker signing the new agreement alongside club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli hasn’t disclosed specific details of the new contract, but according to reports from Italian media outlets, a release clause valued between 120 million and 130 million euros ($132 million and $143 million) has been included. This clause aims to prevent the club from losing their star player to potential suitors from the Premier League without receiving adequate compensation.
The extension of Osimhen’s previous deal, set to expire in June 2025, has been a prominent topic in Italy, especially after Napoli secured their first league title in over three decades last season. Under the departed coach Luciano Spalletti, Osimhen scored 26 league goals, contributing to Napoli’s captivating style of football that led to them being crowned champions for the first time since Diego Maradona’s era at the club.
Since joining from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has tallied a total of 67 goals in 118 appearances.
However, Napoli currently trails Serie A leaders Inter by 14 points ahead of their upcoming match against Roma on Sunday night. Additionally, they faced elimination from the Italian Cup by Frosinone earlier in the week.
