By-Elections: PDP Releases Timetable, Pegs Senate Form At N3.5m

Before the February 3, 2024 by-elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a timetable and activities plan for candidates vying for Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats.

The PDP’s timetable, signed by Umar Bature, the party’s National Organising Secretary, indicates that the sale of nomination, expression of interest, and delegate forms will commence on December 28, 2023, and conclude on January 3, 2024. Additionally, primary elections are set for January 9, 2024.

The PDP has specified the prices for Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for various positions: N3.5m for Senate, N2.5m for House of Representatives, and N600,000 for House of Assembly. Notably, female aspirants and individuals with disabilities will pay for nomination forms only, while those under 40 years will receive a 50% discount on nomination forms when purchasing Expression of Interest forms.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the by-elections for February 3, 2024. These elections are necessitated by the resignation or demise of members from the National and State Houses of Assembly. The vacant positions span across two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, covering nine States in the Federation.
