NAFDAC Takes Action Against Unbranded Milk, Cereals In Open Markets

The NAFDAC has implemented further measures to tackle the presence of unbranded large-sized food items, such as cereals, and addressed the risks associated with their distribution in unhygienic conditions. Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the director general, emphasized these concerns during a discussion with food manufacturing companies.

She highlighted the health dangers to consumers and expressed dissatisfaction with the widespread availability of these bulk food items in markets. Mrs. Eva Edwards, representing Adeyeye, stressed the Agency’s discontent with the entry of these items into the country, which occurs when companies apply to use them in their NAFDAC-registered products.

To address this issue, the Agency has introduced additional measures to scrutinize and validate the usage records of companies applying for import permits for bulk food raw materials.

“We don’t want to just see your stock cards, we want to know what you imported in the previous year. We want to know what you used because there are some calculations that we need to make,” she explained.
