Dangote Refinery Gets 3rd Crude Supply Of 1m Barrel

The Dangote Refinery, valued at $19 billion, recently received an additional one million barrels of crude oil, bringing the total deliveries to approximately three million barrels. This development raises expectations of curbing petroleum product imports and reducing the associated foreign exchange burden.

The recent crude oil supply, sourced from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO), marks a significant step towards achieving self-sufficiency.

Scheduled to commence refining diesel and aviation fuel by mid-January 2024, the Dangote Refinery intends to subsequently refine Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). With its capacity, the refinery aims to cover the entirety of Nigeria’s domestic demand for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel, while also planning to export to the global market.

Anticipating far-reaching impacts, the refinery’s launch is expected to generate numerous benefits, including job opportunities, support for suppliers, knowledge enhancement, empowerment, and technology transfer to Nigerians.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, previously affirmed that the refinery would operate at full capacity, processing 650,000 barrels per day by the conclusion of 2024.

He had said: “We do not want to start our refinery with foreign goods; we want to start with Nigerian crude. We’re more than ready and you will see our gasoline products soon.”
