The Independent National Electoral Commission recently announced the promotion of 5,196 staff members across the country, as detailed in a bulletin shared with journalists on Thursday.
This included the elevation of 55 Deputy Directors from Grade Level 16 to Directors on Grade Level 17, 54 Assistant Directors from GL 15 to Deputy Director Cadre on GL 16, and the advancement of 338 officers from GL 14 to Assistant Directors on GL 15.
The majority of promotions affected 4,749 officers ranging from GL 7 to 13. Additionally, four Commission directors were instructed to take terminal leave based on a Federal Government circular issued on July 27, 2023, which mandates retirement for directors with eight years or more of service in the public sector.
Two of the directors on terminal leave were former Heads of Departments at the Commission’s Abuja Headquarters, while the other two served as Administrative Secretaries in State Offices.
Notably, Clinical Officers in the Medical cadre were exempted from this retirement policy, as outlined in Circular MH 7205/T31 dated September 7, 2023, according to Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
