Arsenal’s bid for the Premier League title took a hit with a 2-1 loss to Fulham, while Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth closed the gap between the two North London rivals. The Gunners, aiming for their first league title in two decades, faced setbacks with two significant defeats in just four days.
Mikel Arteta sought a response following their 2-0 defeat against West Ham, and Arsenal began strongly at Craven Cottage. Bukayo Saka capitalized on a chance, scoring his first goal in six games after Bernd Leno saved Gabriel Martinelli’s initial attempt. Despite the early lead, Arsenal couldn’t capitalize, allowing Fulham to end their three-game Premier League goal drought.
Raul Jimenez, back from suspension, ignited Fulham’s comeback with his fourth goal in as many games, equalizing the score. Former Arsenal player Willian set up Tom Cairney, whose cross led to Jimenez’s goal. Although Martinelli came close to restoring Arsenal’s lead, Fulham dominated the second half, eventually securing victory through Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s close-range strike from a corner.
Despite David Raya’s crucial save and the crossbar denying further goals, Arsenal might have damaged their title hopes significantly over the past week. They currently sit fourth in the league, trailing leaders Liverpool by two points and sharing 40 points with Manchester City, having played one game more than both competitors.
