The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecasted a three-day period of dust haze and sunshine from Monday to Wednesday. NiMet’s Weather Report, released in Abuja on Sunday, predicts dust haze and sunshine predominantly in the North and North Central regions during this timeframe.
In addition, the report indicates a likelihood of moderate dust haze in inland South areas and coastal cities, with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km. NiMet also mentions the potential for isolated thunderstorms in parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa States during Monday’s afternoon and evening hours.
Tuesday is expected to bring a predominantly sunny and hazy atmosphere to the North and North Central regions, while moderate dust haze is anticipated in inland South areas and coastal cities, with similar horizontal visibility.

“Prospects of isolated thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States in the afternoon and evening period” the report read.
NiMet’s forecast for Wednesday anticipates a hazy and sunny atmosphere prevailing across the North and North Central regions throughout the specified period.
“Sunny and hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the North and North Central region during the forecast period. Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5km is expected over the Inland areas of the South while few clouds in the hazy atmosphere is expected over the Coastal belt throughout the forecast period”, the report read.
The agency recommended that the public take necessary precautions as a result of the airborne dust particles. It also issued a caution for individuals with asthma and other respiratory problems to be mindful of the prevailing weather conditions.
The report specifically stated: “Given the suspension of dust particles, it is advisable for the public to take necessary precautions. Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues should exercise caution in light of the current weather conditions.”
Furthermore, airline operators were encouraged to obtain the latest weather updates from NiMet to ensure effective planning and execution of their operations.
