In 2024, Johann Rupert, the South African business tycoon heading Compagnie Financiere Richemont, secured the top spot as Africa’s wealthiest individual, overtaking Aliko Dangote, according to Forbes Real-Time Billionaires.
Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, slipped to second place due to a decrease in his net worth from $13.5 billion in 2023 to $9.7 billion by January 4, 2024, indicating a $3.8 billion loss.
Meanwhile, Rupert’s wealth also saw a decline from $10.7 billion to $10 billion during the same period. Additionally, Abdul Samad Rabiu and Mike Adenuga lost their positions on the billionaire list, with Adenuga’s wealth dropping from $6.3 billion to $3.1 billion, and Rabiu’s increasing from $7.6 billion to $5.7 billion, causing shifts in their rankings on the list.
