Matchroom and Queensberry announced on Friday night that Anthony Joshua is set to face Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. The fight’s date will be finalised next week, and a press conference is scheduled for January 15 in London.
Despite Joshua’s recent victory over Otto Wallin on December 23 in his bid to reclaim the heavyweight throne, his bout against Deontay Wilder was canceled after Wilder’s loss to Joseph Parker on the same card.
Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, made an impactful debut in professional boxing by knocking down Tyson Fury last October, although Fury ultimately won by split decision.
Ngannou’s achievement has earned him a spot in the WBC’s top 10 heavyweight contenders.
Speaking after his bout against Wallin, Joshua bragged: “I’m down to fight anyone. Whenever and whoever.”
