Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is set to depart Serie A champions Napoli for Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window. As per TEAMtalk, although the 25-year-old won’t be moving this month, he’s open to finalising a pre-agreement in January for an official switch to Chelsea later.
Notably, former Chelsea players Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel have been actively engaging Osimhen, aiming to convince him to join the London club.
Chelsea has been eager to bolster their forward line and considers Osimhen a prime target. While they are also interested in Ivan Toney, his age and high price pose obstacles to a move to Stamford Bridge. Osimhen, on the other hand, is reportedly welcoming an approach from Chelsea, ready to seal a pre-agreement this month for a summer move, with Napoli insisting on a release clause of around £112m for any immediate deal.
Italian sources anticipate movement in the transfer in the upcoming weeks, projecting this as Osimhen’s final season with Napoli. Moreover, there’s mounting pressure on Chelsea to expedite their move, considering potential competition for Osimhen’s signature in the summer transfer market.
Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, seeks to add experienced players to his youthful squad, with Osimhen expected to become one of the club’s highest earners if the move materialises.
