Today in Abuja, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, is set to unveil the inaugural online portal for passport applications. He revealed this development during a demonstration session last Friday alongside Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Tunji emphasized that the platform caters to both Nigerian and international applicants seeking passports, marking a step towards the government’s aim of fully automating the passport application process. In December, he announced the imminent implementation of an automated system, nearing completion at 99%, which would involve uploading photos and required documents.
The Minister specified the fees: N25,000 for Nigerian applicants opting for 32-page passports valid for five years, and N70,000 for the 64-page, 10-year validity option.
Foreign applicants, seeking 32-page passports with a five-year validity, will pay $130, while those preferring 64-page passports valid for ten years will pay $230. Applications can be submitted at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng. Distinguished figures in attendance at the launch included Abike Dabiri-Erewa from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Stephen Matete representing the International Organisation for Migration, Joe Abah from Development Alternatives Incorporated, Tijjani Musa of the Kwandala Foundation, and David Afolayan, the Co-founder of Technext.
