We Need ‘Reset’, Arteta Says After Arsenal FA Cup Exit To Liverpool

Mikel Arteta acknowledged that Arsenal requires a mental “reset” following their failure to convert numerous opportunities in a 2-0 loss to Liverpool during the FA Cup third round.

Despite a commanding first half at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta’s team squandered chances and faced a combination of inefficiency in front of goal and exceptional goalkeeping from Alisson Becker, leading to their downfall in the latter stages.

An own goal by Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick in the 80th minute, followed by a late goal from Luis Diaz, sealed Liverpool’s victory.

With just one win in their last seven matches across various competitions, Arsenal’s promising start to the season has been marred by a string of defeats, including exits from the FA Cup and League Cup. They currently trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by five points.

When questioned about his team’s struggles, Arteta admitted the danger of slipping into a mental slump if they fail to refocus promptly.

“Probably it has (become a psychological issue). Especially after today, more than it was against Fulham or West Ham before that. That’s why I think we need to reset,” he said

Arsenal is set to enjoy a 13-day hiatus before their upcoming game against Crystal Palace, offering them an opportunity to rejuvenate.

Arteta sees this break as potentially beneficial for Arsenal as they aim to regain their form and momentum.

“This break is good. It comes in a good time. When things are going well they jump on the train. Now things are difficult, let’s see where they stand,” he said.
