The EFCC summoned the CEOs of Zenith, Providus, and Jaiz banks on Tuesday to inquire about alleged fraud within the Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Ministry, involving suspended Minister Betta Edu and former minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq.
The bank leaders asked to appear are Ebenezer Onyeagwu (Zenith Bank), Walter Akpani (Providus Bank), and Haruna Musa (Jaiz Bank).
“Yes, chief executive officers of Zenith, Providus and Jaiz Banks have been invited to the headquarters of the Commission on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the probe of Betta Edu and Sadiya Umar-Farouq,” a reliable source at EFCC confirmed this.
The recent events occurred just a day after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Edu following uproar over a memo indicating her authorization of transferring N585,198,500, intended for vulnerable groups, to a private account.
Consequently, President Tinubu initiated a thorough investigation into the ministry’s operations.
Waffi TV stated that Edu underwent questioning at the EFCC Headquarters on Tuesday.
