The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, reversed its decision on three appeals aiming to overturn Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s election in Delta State. These appeals were presented by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC, Kenneth Gbaji of the SDP, and Ken Pela of the LP.
The Court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, accepted the appeals for judgment after final arguments were made. The appellants challenged the rulings of both the Court of Appeal in Lagos State and the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, citing irregularities in the election process. Omo-Agege argued that the election didn’t comply with the Electoral Act due to issues like improper recording of results and forms lacking serial numbers.
Gbaji questioned Oborevwori’s eligibility, while Pela sought the nullification of the entire election for a fresh one.
The Supreme Court panel will notify all parties of the judgment date. This case emerged after INEC declared Oborevwori of the PDP as the winner with 360,234 votes, surpassing Omo-Agege of the APC who garnered 240,229 votes.
