Ex-President Jonathan Loses Elder Sister

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, elder sister to former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following a brief illness.

At the age of seventy, she leaves behind a legacy as a retired teacher and businesswoman, described as a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to service.

Known affectionately as Amissi, she was a devout Christian, a virtuous woman, and a role model to many.

The statement from Jonathan’s media office announced that her burial is set for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, with specific funeral details to be disclosed by the family. Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
