Al-Shabaab seized a United Nations helicopter with eight passengers on board after it made an emergency landing in a region controlled by the group, as reported by UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Wednesday via CNN.
The incident occurred in Somalia’s Galmudug region due to a mechanical issue. The passengers, described as foreigners by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), are currently undergoing a rescue operation.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) mentioned that the helicopter was conducting an air medical evacuation, and further details will be provided as they become available.
