Falana Urges Tinubu, Govs To Cut Entourage By 40%

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, urged President Bola Tinubu and state governors to reduce their travel entourage by 40%, emphasizing the commendable step of cost-cutting by the government and suggesting alternative areas to save resources.

Falana said, “It (cutting of entourage) is realistic and if possible the government can go further to reduce the number from 60 to 40 per cent or there about having regards to the state of the economy. But there are areas to address where we are wasting a lot of resources.

“I once traveled and I was in one of the embassies. I was flabbergasted that Nigeria has been paying rent in an African country for our embassy since 1962, that should not be so. So, the government will have to holistically look at the areas of waste,” he added.

He emphasized that, similar to the president, governors should trim down their travel entourage. Regarding the necessity of sacrifice amidst a struggling economy, Falana pointed out that it’s time for the government to practice financial restraint after urging the poor to do so for years.
