The ancient city of Kano State erupted in festivities on Friday after the Supreme Court overturned the dismissal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Governor Yusuf was reinstated as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election by a unanimous decision of the five-member Supreme Court panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro in Abuja.
Justice Okoro emphasized that both the Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal erred in deducting valid votes credited to Governor Yusuf by INEC. Residents, spanning all demographics, joyfully took to the streets, engaging in various celebratory activities.
The exuberant scenes included youths performing stunts with motorcycles, tricycles, and cars, while others dragged brooms along the streets. Spontaneous celebrations unfolded at Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence and other strongholds of the NNPP across the state.
Security personnel were present in key locations, and normalcy swiftly returned to commercial and other activities in the state.
