Seko Fofana and Jean-Philippe Krasso secured a well-deserved victory for Ivory Coast against Guinea Bissau at the Olympic Stadium Ebimpe in Abidjan on Saturday night. Fofana, 28, of Al-Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia, opened the AFCON 2023 scoring in the fourth minute and hit the woodwork in the 35th, narrowly missing a brace.
The Elephants dominated the first half with a lone goal. In the second half, Krasso doubled the lead 13 minutes in, igniting the 60,000-seater stadium filled with enthusiastic orange-clad supporters.
The match saw yellow cards for Ndicka and Sangare of Ivory Coast, and Cassama of Guinea Bissau. Substitutions and equal shots marked the game, ending with Ivory Coast leading Group A after Match Day 1 with three points. The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Equatorial Guinea tomorrow at 3 pm (UTC+1).
