The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been summoned by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to appear before it on Tuesday. This summons is related to allegations of his company’s involvement in a N438 million contract scandal.
The CCB, established to uphold high standards in government conduct, directed the Minister to attend a session at its headquarters in Abuja through a letter signed by Director Gwimi S.P on behalf of Chairman Murtala Aliyu.
“The bureau is investigating a case of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in which your name featured prominently.
“Consequently, you are invited for an interview scheduled as follows:
“Date: Tuesday, 16th January, 2024. Time: 1100hrs prompt. Venue: CCB Headquarters on 5th Floor, Annex III, Phase I, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.
“This invitation is pursuant to the mandate and powers of the Bureau as enshrined in the Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3 (e) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. Please be properly guided,” the letter read.
Recall that New Planet Projects, supposedly owned by Tunji-Ojo, was implicated in a N585 million contract payment scandal.
This led to the suspension of Minister Betta Edu by President Bola Tinubu, who had awarded the company contracts worth N3 billion for the National Social Register. Edu instructed the transfer of public funds to a private account and approved N585,198,500.00 disbursement.
The suspended Minister also allegedly sanctioned funds for a non-existent flight from Abuja to Kogi State. New Planet Projects, linked to Tunji-Ojo, allegedly received N438 million in ‘consultancy fees,’ though the Interior Minister denies involvement in day-to-day operations or being a signatory to its accounts.
