Roma has sacked Jose Mourinho following a string of poor results, including just one win in their last six Serie A matches and elimination from the Coppa Italia by local rivals Lazio.
Despite his contract running until the 2023/2024 season, Mourinho’s tenure has been cut short due to the team’s disappointing performances this season.
The club statement reads: “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
This season, Roma faces challenges, currently occupying the ninth spot in the Serie A standings. The recent 3-1 defeat against Milan marked Mourinho’s last game as the team’s manager, making it the third loss in five league matches. Mourinho had previously guided Roma to their inaugural European title in 2022 with a triumph in the Europa Conference League, and in the subsequent season, he took the team to the Europa League final.
