Apple’s iPhone claimed the title of the world’s best-selling smartphone for the first time, ending Samsung’s 12-year reign, as per data from the International Data Corporation.
In 2023, iPhone sales reached 234.6 million units, surpassing Samsung’s 226.6 million.
Analysts attributed Apple’s success to premium devices and highlighted the impact of a fragmented Android market with competitors like Transsion, Xiaomi, Honor, and Google.
The IDC noted Huawei’s strong presence in China also affected Samsung’s sales. Despite a 3.2% global decline in smartphone shipments to 1.17 billion units in 2023, the industry showed signs of recovery after a sluggish period.
