The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, assured that the Federal Government is committed to honouring its agreements with organised labour.
During a visit to the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Abuja, she emphasized the importance of open communication, fostering positive labour relations, and creating a conducive working environment to avoid future strikes.
Onyejeocha highlighted the government’s readiness to collaborate with trade unions, underscoring the need to maintain open channels of communication.
“I am here specifically to reassure you that we have not forgotten about the agreements between the government and trade unions.
“Government is working round the clock to ensure that agreements with trade unions are fulfilled.
“Thank God that you have confirmed that the federal government has started paying the N35,000 wage award.
“I can assure you that the payment is on course and the outstanding will be paid within a short time,” she said.
Additionally, she mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is actively prioritizing the resolution of the new national minimum wage matter. Onyejeocha affirmed the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the prompt commencement of the committee’s work.
