NAFDAC Launches App To Verify Registered Drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has launched an online application named “Greenbook,” featuring a database for verifying all registered medications.

Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, disclosed this information during the launch event at the NAFDAC office in the Isolo area of Lagos State on Wednesday. Accessible through the web, the app aims to enhance medication verification.

Adeyeye said, “It is a repository of NAFDAC-registered drugs. This momentous occasion symbolises a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering quality, efficacious, and easily verifiable products to the market.”

“One of the things that we should be known for is transparency. Transparency is extremely important. It reflects our shared commitment to building a robust framework for pharmaceutical oversight and ensuring that Nigerians have access to safe and effective medicines.

“May it serve as a beacon of progress, guiding us towards a future where health care is characterised by transparency, accountability, and, most importantly, the well-being of our citizens.

Additionally, Dr. Dunoi Afam, the Deputy Director of E-Registration and Data Management at NAFDAC, emphasized that the platform aims to disseminate information about a particular drug to the general public.

He said, “We’re launching this Green Book app now to be able to help our patients, our medical practitioners, and health providers, check the status of any medicine that is brought to them, maybe purchased or intended to be purchased. And so you can confirm the registration status of that product.

“If a product is registered by NAFDAC, you understand that that product has gone through the rigour of regulatory work, process on ensuring that the manufacturer of the product conforms to good manufacturing practices.

“Once you have accessed this app on your phone, web, or your laptops or computer systems, you will be able to check and confirm. And with this, you can even see whether a product is actually a fake product or an original product registered by NAFDAC.”
