After overcoming hosts and one of the tournament’s top contenders, Cote d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles are poised to secure a spot in the last 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as they take on Guinea-Bissau later today.
Nigeria’s journey in the competition started with a draw against Equatorial Guinea, but they delivered a significant 1-0 triumph against Cote d’Ivoire in front of their home supporters.
Currently holding the second position in the group standings, Coach Jose Peseiro’s team trails only behind Equatorial Guinea based on goal differences. A single point in today’s match will secure a top-two position for the Nigerian side, ensuring qualification for the next round.
If they secure a victory and Equatorial Guinea fails to earn maximum points against Cote D’Ivoire, the Super Eagles will claim the top spot in the group.
