On Thursday, three Sevilla supporters lost their lives in a traffic accident while en route to witness their team’s Copa del Rey quarter-final match against Atletico Madrid.
“Sevilla deeply laments the death of three Sevilla fans who lost their lives this morning … suffering a traffic accident when going to Madrid for tonight’s game,” wrote the club in a statement.
“The club is with their families and friends in these difficult moments. In their memory the players will wear a black armband.”
Sevilla has requested a moment of silence from the Spanish football federation before the match. The tragic incident occurred on the A4 motorway near the Despenaperros natural park, approximately 270 kilometers south of Madrid, as reported by Spanish sources.
The Los Hispalenses are set to confront Atletico in the Spanish capital at the Metropolitano stadium for the last quarter-final, aiming to advance to the semis alongside Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, and Real Mallorca.
