At least four individuals are feared dead in a horrific traffic incident that occurred along the Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State section of the New Benin/Asaba Expressway. The crash, involving a heavy-duty vehicle, an 18-seater passenger bus, and two motorcycles, took place around 3:00 pm on Thursday.
Those injured are reportedly in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Central Hospital in Agbor, while the deceased have been evacuated and placed in the mortuary. Sources indicate that the truck, loaded with consumables, lost control while descending the hills near the former Mr. Biggs area of the road.
Eyewitnesses said: “As the driver struggled to control the truck, it crashed into a waiting bus which was parked by the roadside and the driver, scouting for passengers.
“Aside from the bus, the truck also crushed two motorcycles just as the operator of one of the motorcycles was crushed beyond recognition”.
Certain sympathizers pointed fingers at the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), accusing them of unlawfully parking at the roadside while actively seeking passengers.
