England international Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder for Manchester City, has joined West Ham on loan for the remainder of the season in a bid to enhance his chances of participating in Euro 2024.
Despite his limited appearances for the English champions since his £45 million move from Leeds in July 2022, Phillips has been consistently chosen by England manager Gareth Southgate.
The loan provides Phillips with the opportunity for regular first-team action, strengthening his case for a starting role in the upcoming Euro tournament. West Ham, currently sixth in the Premier League, is reportedly considering making the move permanent.
The team, led by David Moyes, aims to secure a Champions League spot, either through the Premier League or by winning the Europa League, with fifth place potentially sufficient for qualification this season. Additionally, West Ham has progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League after winning the previous season’s Europa Conference League.
