The Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, stated that the Federal Government is actively addressing outstanding payments to power generation companies to resolve the blackout.
According to Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser, Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, Adelabu emphasised that the current blackout is linked to a shortage of gas supply to power generating companies, and the payments aim to enhance gas supply and boost power generation.
“This will also enable distribution companies to supply more electricity to Nigerians.
“We acknowledge the current unsustainable situation, and we expect a turnaround immediately,” he said.
The minister emphasized ongoing initiatives for a prompt resolution of the prevailing blackout in the country. He noted a considerable decline in power supply to Nigerians over the past weeks, attributing it to adverse effects on production and resulting in blackouts in certain regions.
“This is mainly due to a decreased level of gas supply to generation companies.
“This situation has led to a lower level of energy supplied to load centres, which has affected supply of electricity to distribution companies,” he said
