Napoli’s president and owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, revealed that Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker, will depart this summer, expressing that his destination could be either Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, or an English club.
This announcement follows Osimhen’s interview with CBS, where he indicated having already decided on his next move.
Despite Osimhen’s recent contract extension with Napoli, which reportedly includes a release clause ranging from 120 to 130 million euros, De Laurentiis stated that he was not surprised, having anticipated Osimhen’s departure since his impressive performance as Serie A’s top scorer last season.
“We’ve known all this since last summer, which is also why negotiations for the extension of his contract, although friendly, took so long,” De Laurentiis said.
“We know he’s either going to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or an English club.”
Last year’s African Player of the Year, Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in 2020, boasts an impressive record with 67 goals in 119 appearances across all competitions.
Napoli is currently undergoing a challenging season, positioned ninth in the league and eliminated from the Italian Cup. Following Luciano Spalletti’s departure post-title win, Rudi Garcia was appointed by De Laurentiis but was dismissed in mid-November. Walter Mazzarri is now leading the team until the season’s end.
De Laurentiis ruled out the possibility of hiring Jose Mourinho as a future coach. Mourinho, currently without a club after Roma terminated his contract in mid-January, won’t be taking charge at Napoli according to the club’s president.
“Mourinho at Napoli is not on the agenda,” De Laurentiis said.
“He’s a great coach, very likeable, part of the history of a certain kind of soccer.
“His destiny will undoubtedly take him out of Italy, at least not to Naples,” De Laurentiis concluded.
