Reps To Collaborate With Military, Others To Combat Oil Theft

The Special Committee on Oil Theft in the House of Representatives vows to work closely with the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security entities to combat the issue of crude oil theft.

Doguwa commended the recent successes of the military and security organizations in safeguarding government facilities and exposing various sites contributing to the theft of the country’s crude oil.

He highlighted the joint efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in inspecting an illicit crude oil vessel intercepted by Tantita Security Services, a private security firm, loaded with thousands of metric tonnes of crude oil.

“We also commend the Nigerian military for its commitment to securing government facilities and improving production processes in the oil and gas sector of the Nigerian economy,” Doguwa said.

He pledged ongoing legislative scrutiny and amendments to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in order to create an efficient framework for effective security operations. This commitment, he believes, will empower President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to revitalize the economy through the oil and gas sector.

The Chairman reaffirmed the House’s dedication to enact laws improving the socio-economic conditions of oil-producing communities. He urged community leaders to caution their members against undermining the country’s economic potential in their areas.

In response, General Christopher G. Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, expressed gratitude for the House’s support in securing Nigeria’s crude oil and assured that the military would intensify its efforts.
