Angry Mob Nabs, Beats Suspected Thief Burgling Shop In Delta

On Sunday, an enraged crowd captured and brutally assaulted a 28-year-old suspected thief, accusing him of breaking into a shop along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident unfolded when a passerby witnessed the suspect attempting to burglarize a woman’s shop, prompting an alarm that drew security personnel from a nearby popular hotel. Despite the suspect’s attempt to escape, the mob pursued and apprehended him.

Subsequently, he endured a harsh beating for allegedly stealing female slippers from the targeted store. When interviewed at the scene, the accused, who identified himself as a resident of Mechanic Village, Army Barracks in Effurun, and claimed to be from Kwale Community in Delta State, vehemently denied the allegations.

He said, “I did not break the shop. I am not a thief. It’s a lie. I am not a thief. I was just passing by.”

When questioned about his being in the shop and the true identity of the burglar, he chose to stay silent, feigning pain. Nnamdi, the accused, suffered intense beatings and sustained serious injuries before finally being let go.
