FG Not Recruiting ‘Area Boys’ To Collect Tax- Oyedele

Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the presidential committee on Fiscal Policy and Reforms, emphasized that the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has no intention to enlist “Area boys” as tax collectors. Oyedele clarified this on Saturday via his official X account, addressing misconceptions arising from reports.

He stated that his remarks on Channels Television about tax harmonization and reducing multiple levies were taken out of context, highlighting the need to enhance business ease without recruiting individuals already performing such tasks.

“The issue I addressed during my interview on Channels TV, which has been sensationalized and taken out of context, was how to get the buy-in of those who currently collect these taxes (and benefit from doing so beyond whatever they are being paid officially). I did not mention any words like recruit or employ”, he said.

Remember that Oyedele previously mentioned the government’s intention to suspend multiple taxation, aiming to enhance the ease of conducting business in Nigeria.
