Land Dispute: 6 Dead, Many Injured In Delta Communities Clash

Yesterday, chaos erupted in the riverine communities of Okoloba and Okuama in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of Delta State, as they engaged in a violent clash over a land dispute. Six individuals lost their lives, and numerous others were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

This incident follows a previous verbal conflict between the two communities last year, revolving around allegations of trespass on land and fishing lake, prompting one community to seek government intervention.

An anonymous source from one of the communities revealed that the shooting began on Saturday, resulting in six fatalities and several others wounded.

He said: “You are aware, this crisis has been brewing since last year when our community sent an open letter, calling on the state government to intervene, urging the government to call the aggressor, Okuoma community, to order.

“Yesterday, between 5p.m. and 6p.m., the two communities engaged in a shootout and six persons went down on the side of Okuama, including three mercenaries from other communities. They are Urhobo and Ijaw mercenaries. Today, any side can start the attack again.”
