In the early hours of Monday, two individuals in their early twenties allegedly set fire to a building containing eight shops along Palm-Groove Road in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
After igniting the fire, they quickly fled the scene. A victim, the proprietor of an eatery in one of the shops, recounted waking up at around 3 am due to the smell of petrol. The victim, requesting anonymity, described witnessing the two suspected arsonists committing the act before making their escape.
“The motive for setting the building ablaze is still a mystery,” the shop owner said.
Observers gathered at the location around 7 am on Monday to express sympathy.
