The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, granted a warrant for the arrest of the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Edison Ehie. Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the ruling, also ordering the arrest of five others implicated in the alleged invasion, vandalization, and arson of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex. Apart from Ehie, the court directed the arrest of Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict, Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri, and Chibuike Peter (a.k.a. Rambo).
This order stemmed from an ex-parte application filed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, based on relevant legal provisions.
Mr. Simon Lough, SAN, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, presented the application on Wednesday, informing the court that the six defendants are currently evading arrest.
He emphasised their alleged involvement in conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder, and the killing of Superintendent of Police, SP Bako Agbashim, along with five other police informants in Rivers State—Charles Osu, Ogbonna Eja, Idaowuka Felix, Paul Victor Chibuogu, and Saturday Edi.
The court, swayed by the police lawyer’s arguments and supporting affidavit (FHC/ABJ/ CS/12/2024), not only declared the defendants wanted but also ordered that upon their apprehension and investigation, they should be brought before the court for trial.
