FG Sets Up Committee To Address Nationwide Drop In Electricity Supply

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced on Friday that the Nigerian Government has formed a committee to address electricity blackouts in specific regions. Adelabu shared this information via his official X account after meeting with electricity distribution and generation companies.

He underscored that the absence of gas supply to Generation Companies (GenCos) is causing the blackouts and stressed the importance of GenCos establishing contractual arrangements with gas suppliers for a consistent gas supply. He also mentioned the initiation of a plan, in collaboration with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, to prioritize gas supply to the power sector.

“To tackle the gas supply and liquidity challenges, I’ve formed a committee involving all stakeholders. Together, we will work on recommendations to resolve these issues and ensure a more reliable and consistent power supply for our citizens.

“A plan has also been established to initiate discussions with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources regarding collaboration and to emphasize to the Ministry the importance of prioritizing Gas to Power,” he said.
