In the thrilling Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final on Saturday, Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 victory over Mali in Bouake with a dramatic back-heel goal by Oumar Diakite during added time at the end of extra time.
Despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half and falling behind to a Nene Dorgeles goal in the second half, Simon Adingra’s 90th-minute equalizer kept the Ivorians in the game.
However, Diakite’s second yellow card for celebrating by removing his shirt further challenged the hosts, leaving them with only nine players. The win now sets up a semi-final clash with DR Congo.
