Troops Kill 185 Terrorists, Apprehend 212 Others

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reports that over the past week, the military eliminated at least 185 terrorists and kidnappers while apprehending 212 others in diverse operations nationwide. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this information in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.

Additionally, the troops successfully detained 44 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 71 kidnapped hostages. The week’s operations resulted in the recovery of 224 assorted weapons and 2,337 ammunition, including 113 AK47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one PKT gun, 44 locally fabricated guns, seven primed IEDs, 1,382 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 387 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 74 rounds of 9mm ammo, 23 K2 rounds ammo, and 111 live cartridges.

“Others include, 5,410 empty cases of 7.62mm special, six empty cases of cartridges, two magazines loaded with 60 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 21 magazines, one pistol magazine, two bandoliers, two vehicles, 22 motorcycles, 47 mobile phones, 11 HH radios and the sum of N2.3 million amongst other items,” he said.

In the North East, Buba reported that Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralised 45 terrorists, apprehended eight Boko Haram/ISWAP members, rescued 18 hostages, and recovered a substantial cache of arms. Between Jan. 24 and Jan. 28, 133 terrorists, including 4 adult males, 48 adult females, and 81 children, surrendered. In the North Central, Operation Safe Haven troops neutralized 17 insurgents, arrested 64 extremists, and rescued three hostages.

Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue neutralised seven insurgents, arrested three extremists, and recovered arms. In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji troops neutralized 65 insurgents, arrested 18, and rescued 39 hostages. Air interdiction targeted terrorists in Katsina. Operation Whirl Punch in Niger, Kogi, and FCT arrested 30 insurgents and rescued two hostages. In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe destroyed illegal refining sites, recovering stolen products.

The troops dismantled 12 pits, 61 boats, 56 tanks, 13 vehicles, 78 ovens, four pump machines, and 51 refining sites, with 815,980 liters of stolen crude oil, 163,675 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 1,750 liters of DPK recovered.

In the South East, Operation UDOKA neutralized 18 insurgents, arrested 36, rescued eight hostages, and recovered a significant arms cache. In the South West, Operation AWATSE arrested 12 suspected armed robbers and cultists in Lagos and Ogun States.
