The Delta State Government has allocated 388 tonnes of maize to the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, PAN, in the state to address the challenges they are facing.
The distribution, which took place at the ADP office in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the impact of increasing feed production costs.
Chief Jaro Egbo, the Secretary of the state Palliatives Committee, highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce the cost of living by promoting local production and enhancing the state’s competitiveness in agricultural productivity compared to other states. Additionally, he mentioned that the verification process for the association’s member list indicated a substantial compliance rate of around 97 percent.
“A total of 528 tonnes of maize are to be distributed to poultry farmers in the state out of which we are releasing 7,660 bags of maize which is about 388 tonnes, to the poultry farmers until we sort out other grey areas to see whether those farms exist or not,” Egbo said.
The Chairman of the state chapter of PAN, Chief Eric Tomfawei, expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for implementing policies and programs geared towards improving food security in the state in his statement.
