Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), in collaboration with security operatives, conducted a parade on Tuesday, showcasing the vessel Harbor Spirit and approximately fifteen individuals apprehended along the Sangana Waterways in Bayelsa State on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters aboard the vessel in Oporoza waters, the hometown of former militant leader and Executive Chairman of Tantita, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, the Executive Director of Operations and Technical at Tantita, Captain Warredi Enisuoh, disclosed that the vessel was seized with 88,000 metric tons of illegal crude oil. He added that among the fifteen individuals presented, twelve were crew members captured onboard the vessel, while the rest were local residents suspected of aiding the illicit operation.
Furthermore, Captain Enisuoh mentioned that although the ship was not registered in the country, all crew members were Nigerian nationals. He commended the collaboration between Tantita and the military, expressing confidence that this partnership would eradicate oil theft in the region.
” We are working in synergy with the military. The Chief of Defence Staff was here and he spoke of synergy. The synergy has brought about the arrest of Harbour spirit .
“In collaboration with the Navy we monitored the vessel until it came close to apprehension. Two days ago( Sunday) the detective system found.the vessel loitering at a platform in Bayelsa state loading crude . 88,000 metric tones was found and what they took already was enough to show their motive and intention”. He said those arrested would be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation.
The captain of the detained vessel, whose name was not disclosed, responded to inquiries from journalists, explaining that they were on the verge of disembarking from the vessel when personnel from Tantita and security operatives descended upon them. He mentioned that three of his crew members leaped into the river during the operation.
” We were apprehended at the loading point at Sangana. We were not happy with the operation. We were about disembarking from the vessel before we were arrested. Three of our crew jumped into the river. I have not heard from them.” The captain admitted that there was crude in the vessel at the time of the arrest.
