Electoral Act Amendment Bill Scales Second Reading In House Of Reps

A proposed amendment to the Electoral Act has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives. Sponsored by Francis Waive, the bill advocates for consolidating general elections to a single day to enhance efficiency and mitigate the bandwagon effect.

Additionally, it aims to mandate electronic transmission of results and impose significant fines on individuals submitting baseless petitions to minimize court cases. If approved, the amendment will necessitate a new voter registration process overseen by the electoral commission.
