President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Federal Government to implement a food intervention to address the food scarcity in the nation. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, conveyed this directive at the State House following a session of the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention chaired by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Idris emphasized the government’s concern for the hardships faced by Nigerians and assured that measures are being taken to provide relief.
The meeting, attended by officials such as Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari, Minister of State for Agriculture Mustapha Shehuri, Minister of Budget and Planning Atiku Bagudu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Yemi Cardoso, convened in response to protests in several regions over escalating food and living costs, notably in Niger and Kano states.
These demonstrations have prompted urgent calls for action to stabilise the prices of essential food items.
