In a bid to curb the rampant illegal occupation of land and the extortion of development levies, commonly referred to as “deve,” the Delta State government has taken decisive action by establishing an eight-man Task Force.
Led by Chairman Mr. Frank Omare, Director-General of Special Duties, the task force comprises key members from various government agencies, including security and environmental management bodies.
The move comes as a response to the troubling trend of individuals illegally occupying government land, erecting structures without permission, and intimidating law-abiding citizens. The State Government, under the leadership of Governor Rt. Hon Sheriff F.O Oborevwori, has made it clear that such activities will no longer be tolerated.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. It warned perpetrators of illegal land occupation and “deve” extortion that they will face severe consequences for their actions.
The establishment of this Task Force represents a significant step towards restoring order and preserving the sanctity of land ownership in Delta State. With the backing of the government and the dedication of its members, it sends a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated, and measures will be taken to safeguard public interests.
