The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has refuted claims of an impending increase in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol.
In recent times, certain motorists have encountered challenges purchasing petrol at filling stations, triggering concerns that authorities might raise the price of this vital commodity. This circumstance has resulted in the resurgence of long queues at various filling stations in Lagos State, leading to traffic congestion in certain areas.
However, in a statement released on Thursday, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC, advised Nigerians against engaging in panic buying of petrol.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. assures the public that there is no imminent increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol,” the statement read.
“NNPC Ltd. urges Nigerians to disregard unfounded rumours and assures them that there are no plans for an upward review of the PMS price.
“Motorists nationwide are advised against engaging in panic buying, as there is presently ample availability of PMS across the country.”
