President Bola Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead a presidential delegation to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Côte d’Ivoire. Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice-President, conveyed this directive.
The Super Eagles will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in a rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11. Nkwocha mentioned that the match will evoke memories of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory against the hosts in the group stage, clinched through Captain William Troost-Ekong’s penalty.
Tinubu views Shettima’s presence at the final, accompanied by the delegation, as a demonstration of the government’s steadfast support for the team and its commitment to their success. It’s worth recalling that Shettima had previously represented Tinubu at the semi-final, where the Eagles triumphed over South Africa in an intense encounter.
