Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, has urged President Bola Tinubu to present a bid for hosting the FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that Nigeria is once again showcasing its best. Nigeria’s last FIFA tournament was the U-17 World Cup in 2009, while South Africa remains the only African country to have hosted the senior FIFA World Cup.
Motsepe expressed optimism about Africa’s potential to host the World Cup soon, highlighting Nigeria’s strong candidacy. He mentioned plans to discuss this matter with President Tinubu during the 2023 AFCON final in Cote d’Ivoire.
“I know the President of Nigeria is coming for the final; I will ask him to put in a bid for Nigeria to host the World Cup. Nigeria must put in a bid. I will have a conversation with him about it.” Motsepe said.
Expanding on his point, Motsepe emphasized Africa’s need to take pride in the successful track record of the 2023 AFCON, suggesting that the tournament’s quality is set to improve further.
