The National Agency for the Control of AIDS has advised Nigerians to safeguard themselves and prioritise their safety and well-being while showing affection during the Valentine’s season.
This message was conveyed in a statement issued by Toyin Aderibigbe, Head of the Public Relations and Protocol unit of the agency, in anticipation of Valentine’s Day, celebrated annually on February 14 to exchange love and gifts.
The Director General of NACA, Dr. Gambo Aliyu said, “As people celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, we want everyone to enjoy it while prioritising their well-being.
“NACA encourages individuals to adopt a comprehensive approach to love, which includes open communication, mutual respect, and responsible choices,” Aliyu said.
He further encouraged the general populace to integrate protection into intimate encounters, undergo routine HIV testing, and initiate discussions about sexual health with their partners. He emphasized that these actions not only promote personal well-being but also contribute to the overarching objective of cultivating safer and healthier communities.
“Love is a powerful force, and by embracing responsible practices, we can ensure that it enriches our lives without compromising our health. NACA is dedicated to providing resources, information, and support to empower individuals in making informed choices,” he noted.
