The Federal Government plans to provide a monthly stipend of N25,000 to 15 million households nationwide to ease economic difficulties. President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidies and currency controls since taking office last year has led to a threefold increase in petrol prices and a rise in living expenses due to the depreciation of the naira against the dollar.
These policies have plunged many Nigerians into an economic crisis, causing inflation to soar and making it difficult for people to afford basic necessities.
Numerous citizens have expressed their discontent with Tinubu’s leadership by protesting in the streets. In an exclusive interview on Channels Television, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, stated that the Federal Government is committed to alleviating hardship, particularly for the impoverished and vulnerable populations.
“That is N25,000 a month to 15 million households and each household is about five people. So, that effectively provides funding for 75 million people.”
